2008 Week 3

After managing an 8-7 prediction record for Week 2 (hey, at least I was right over 50% of the time), I'm continuing to see if I can't build on that as the strengths and weaknesses of teams become more apparent as the weeks go on.

Kansas City Chiefs at Atlanta Falcons - The Falcons suffered through the first growing pains of Matt Ryan last week in Tampa. Now he has the winless Chiefs coming in to town. The Chiefs just lost to a Oakland team that played very similar to what the Falcons game plan is - win with the run and hope the QB doesn't make mistakes. Expect the Chiefs to stack the line and make Matt Ryan beat them which at home or not is tough for any rookie. Chiefs win 17-16

Oakland Raiders at Buffalo Bills - The Bills are coming off a big road win and are continuing towards proving they are the class of the AFC East. The Raiders will struggle against a defense that stuffed Jacksonville's running game. Home Sweet Home for Buffalo as they win in cruise control. Bills win 31-7

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Chicago Bears - These two teams are more similar than dissimilar. Major difference - Tampa Bay's running attack is better than the Bears, and the Tampa D just held Micheal Turner to 46 on 14. Monte Kiffin also knows everything Lovie Smith does and then some. Gruden will respect the Bears defense and put it in the air minimally. Tampa wins 21-17

Carolina Panthers at Minnesota Vikings - The Panthers are at 2-0 thanks to last minute heroics. The Vikings are better than their record shows. Both teams are good, even though the Panthers get Steve Smith back this week, the Vikings will get their first win with home field advantage in their favor in a close game. Vikings win 21-20

Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots - The Jets got cocky and underestimated a team without Tom Brady, costing them the game as they looked completely unprepared. The Dolphins won't make that mistake but it won't matter. The stellar teammates Cassel has to lean on will carry him and the Patriots past the Dolphins. Patriots win 23-13

Cincinnati Bengals at New York Giants - The Bengals ride into New York and for once are lucky to be on the road. The Giants have played worse at home than on the road lately. The Bengals will find themselves finally able to put points on the board, but their terrible D will cost them the game - again. Giants win 34-24

Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans - Houston is not that bad of a team and opened the season against a tough opponent. Matt Schaub will have a good day throwing the ball but they will be hard pressed to get their running game going against the Titans defense. Texans will get a couple - probably lucky - turnovers and win the ballgame. Texans win 23-20

Arizona Cardinals at Washington Redskins - The Redskins just took out NFC South favorites New Orleans, but the Cardinals are seemingly trying to blaze a path that finally proves themselves worthy of respect from other teams. If Warner has another game like last week, the Redskins will be licking their wounds. Arizona wins 33-21

New Orleans Saints at Denver Broncos - The Saints are a threat - on offense. Their pass rush is decent but their secondary is subpar. Jay Cutler will have a field day with his variety of weapons. This win will be no fluke. Denver wins 34-16

Detroit Lions at San Francisco 49ers - The 49ers made an impressive comeback win happen in Seattle and will still be riding high on morale as they bring it back home to face the hapless Lions. Detroit needs to get an offensive Line that can protect their quarterback and a defense that knows how to tackle. 49ers take it 29-24

St. Louis Rams at Seattle Seahawks - one team is injury plagued, the other is a team that seems to forget they play in the NFL. Seattle has still shown more promise with half their team being back-ups. Seattle takes their easy win 26-9

Browns at Ravens - Matt Ryan didn't win 2 in a row, Joe Flacco won't either. The Ravens lose this one, by how much depends on which defense shows up - the good one from week 1 or the aging one from the end of last season. Browns win 33-15

Jacksonville Jaguars at Indiannapolis Colts - The Jaguars and their injuries have yet to get anything on track this season, while Peyton Manning seemed like he was figuring it out at the end of last weeks comeback victory. (Being a Bucs fan I know something about Manning coming from behind...) Colts win 24-17

Pittsburgh Steelers at Philadelphia Eagles - The Eagles are playing extremely good footbal for being 1-1. The Steelers didn't beat Cleveland in all that convincing of a manner and have some issues that need to be resolved before they claim the 'best in the AFC' title. Philadelphia will exploit them at home. Eagles win 38-30

Dallas Cowboys at Green Bay Packers - Dallas is still  the kings of the regular season in the NFC. Now if only Romo would play this way in the post season. Good thing it's not that time yet. Dallas wins 34-27

New York Jets at San Diego Chargers - San Diego is good, despite their record. They really feel they have something to prove and it's unfortunate for the Jets that they are playing them a week after their loss in Denver that they are all still fuming over. Chargers win 36-21

2008 - Week 2

Hello all and welcome to my little corner of the NFL blog world. Some of you might not agree with the opinions I post on here, and may even feel insulted - which is funny considering that I'm not saying anything harmful. So just sit back, relax, waste time at work and enjoy someone else's opinions.

Tennessee Titans at Cincinnati Bengals

This one should prove interesting, a team that underachieved in Week 1 vs a team that is fueled by Vince Young. I would tip my hat towards the direction of the Titans in this one if it were not for Vince Young being injured and Carson Palmer's horrible performance last week. Carson Palmer is too good for a repeat of that and will prove it by picking apart the Titans secondary. However, with the Bengals horrible defense expect a shootout. Carson Palmer throws a TD in the final 2 minutes to give the Bengals the W. 34-30

Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions

The team without the Hall of Famer faces a division rival that is still trying to find itself under 2nd year Coach Rod Marinelli. Expect the game tapes of Aaron Rodgers to be well studied by the former Line coach. The Lions defensive line will have a good day, bringing Aaron Rodgers back to earth after last weeks win. The Lions may not be able to win on the road, but are considerably more difficult at home. Lions win 23-10

Oakland Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs

Talk about the battle of the unfortunate. The Chiefs showed more poise than the Raiders this last week in their loss. The Chiefs have a huge day running the ball while the Raiders take one more loss to knock them into the shape they should be in. Kansas City Wins 17-13

New York Giants at St. Louis Rams

The St. Louis Rams have been so much worse in practice on than on paper. The Giants have been better in practice than on paper. Eli Manning will have trouble in the dome, and the Rams will provide just enough flash of their real potential to steal this one from the Super Bowl Champs, giving the league a reason to question both teams legitimacy. Rams upset the Giants 21-17

Indiannapolis Colts at Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings are a good team, but don't have a leader. The Colts are a good team with a great leader. The Vikings will prove it isn't funny to try and make Peyton Manning go 0-2 as they fall to the Colts in a high scoring game. Colts win 37-27

New Orleans at Washington Redskins

New Orleans scraped by Tampa Bay in their home opener and now have a chance to prove they can win on the road. The Redskins just want to prove that they can win period. The Redskins won't be phased by the arrival of familiar face Jeremy Shockey on the Saints, and sail past them, keeping the races in both the NFC South and East close. Redskins take it 27-24

Chicago Bears at Carolina Panthers

The Bears looked good this weeked as they upset the Colts, but so did the Panthers as they rallied past the Chargers. These teams play similar games - rough and tough. The line comes down to who's house it is in - and it's in resurgent Jake Delhomme's house. He'll prove the Panthers are not be overlooked for the second week in a row. Panthers win 33-16

Buffalo Bills at Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars weren't expecting a Bills team of this caliber to come strolling in to town. The Bills morale is high and their talent is deep and well spread. Trent Edwards will keep the Jags D honest while Lynch stacks on the yards, bullying the time of possession clock. The Bills continue their bid for the AFC East and show that they aren't one hit wonders. Bills win 26-13

San Francisco 49'ers at Seattle Seahawks

San Francisco needs to win some time. Seattle's Mike Holmgren won't go quietly though and will use his battered Seahawks to their best ability, making San Francisco wait another week for a win. Seahawks win big 37-10

Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The NFC South division games are never pretty and always played down to the minute. Micheal Turner and the Falcons pit themselves against Earnest Graham and the Bucs.  Unfortunately for Atlanta, the Bucs Defense is much better than the Lions, and rookie Matt Ryan will learn the downs of being a rookie quarterback in his first division game. Tampa takes it 26-17

Baltimore Ravens at Houston Texans

The Rookie quarterbacks won together, and will lose together.  Rookie mistakes by Joe Flacco will make the Texans defense look like all-stars while Matt Schaub shows Flacco what being a QB is. The Baltimore defense is still good enough to keep it close. Texans win 16-10

New England Patriot at New Jork Jets

One team gains a legendary quarterback, one team loses theirs. On this given sunday the Jets show why the Patriots will be fighting just to get second place in the East and a shot at a wildcard without Brady. Jets win a close one 27-24

Miami Dolphins at Arizona Cardinals

Chad Pennington isn't very good. By now he is weary of facing another Veteran QB and former TD pass record holder in Kurt Warner. Kurt Warner has weapons, Chad Pennington does not. Arizona wins 20-13

San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos

Is this the year of Jay Cutler? This NFL fan thinks so. Phillip Rivers will think otherwise. In traditional San Diego slow start fashion they will fall to the Broncos before they pick themselves up and start running over teams. Jay Cutler will go John Elway on them and make the come from behind impossible drive happen, lifting the Broncos to a win. Denver wins 34-30

Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns

Both teams have high expectations as they are projected to battle it out for control of the division. Cleveland will get back on track for week 2, but Pittsburge won't derail either. The Home team advantage gives the advantage to the Browns as they edge out their primary competion - this time. Browns win 33-30

Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys are the NFC kings of the regular season. The Eagles and McNabb might be good enough to challenge them, but not in the Cowboys hometown. Dallas wins again 30-21
